NATURE - Poetry

“MOTHER EARTH”

Written by Alma Claire / Art by Joyce Lee

if mother earth

had been father earth since the beginning of time

i wonder if we might have heard his cries

not stood idly by

while forest burn and creatures die

if we called nature he

instead of she

a part of me thinks that by now we’d be free

of the gluttony and greed

that feeds on the trees and bees and lets animals bleed

if ‘feminine’ is the nature of the world

then its no wonder she is suffering like all of the girls –

neglected exploited abandoned oppressed

used when needed and discarded for the rest

if mother earth

had been father earth since the beginning of time

i wonder if we might have heard his cries

not been so paralysed, instead mobilised

to save her life
